It’s been just over a year since our friend Irene Gleeson went home to be with the Lord. She was an amazing woman of God who dedicated her life to serving the people of northern Uganda. In this special memorial post, Rebecca Lamb shares how her life was greatly impacted by Irene Gleeson, and what she learned during her time working with the Irene Gleeson Foundation in Uganda.
“It’s been a year since Irene Gleeson transitioned into heaven. Irene, you were like a mother to me. I’m so thankful for the time we had together. I feel so blessed that God orchestrated for our paths to cross at such a crucial time in my life. I had no idea that soon after meeting you and letting you into my heart you would leave this earth. Words can’t describe the impact you made on my life. The things you taught me are priceless. You were a strong and courageous woman whose life touched many in such a powerful way through the love and grace of God. You stood firmly in Christ in a place that exemplified hell, and prayed until that place became God’s kingdom. The stories you shared with me and the things I experienced with you in Kitgum demonstrated to me the power and faithfulness of God. God used that trip to Uganda to show me that I could trust Him with my life. God also taught me that no situation was too dire for Him to turn around. No person was too sick, no tragedy was too hard, no hurt was too deep for God to completely heal and restore. Mum, you taught me forgiveness, you taught me the power of prayer, you taught me that God can and will be everything you need, you taught me to hear and obey God, and you taught me anything is possible with God. Your legacy lives on through IGF, and it’s my prayer that God will continue to bless and multiply IGF’s efforts. I pray for the people who were so close to you as they continue to handle your passing. Lastly, I celebrate the fact that you are in heaven, because I remember how desperately you wanted to see Jesus face to face. Mum, I love you, I miss you, and I’ll see you again soon, because this earth is not my home.”
