John Paul and Diane would like to thank everyone for the prayers and kind words that they’ve received since announcing John Paul’s battle with cancer. For those of you who have not heard, John Paul has a malignant tumor in his left leg called a soft-tissue sarcoma. Sarcomas are the rarest type of cancer.

For those of you who sent in encouraging voice-mails or Facebook posts, these are truly having a positive effect on him. Thank you also for your prayers and financial support during this challenging time.

Here’s where we’re at: John Paul has completed the radiation phase of his treatment. The purpose of the radiation therapy was to shrink the tumor, and in doing so, allow the surgeons a better opportunity to remove it without damaging the sciatic nerve and leaving as much muscle tissue in his left leg as possible. The tumor has grown very close to the sciatic nerve, and this is causing an immense amount of pain. However, since treatment has begun, we’ve received several encouraging pieces of news.

First, as far as the doctors can tell the cancer has not spread to any other part of John Paul’s body. It also has not spread into the bone. This is an amazing answer to prayer, because had either of those issues happened, recovery would’ve been exponentially more difficult. Second, John Paul has been regaining strength in his left leg. He is now able to climb stairs, something he wasn’t able to do over the last six weeks. The doctors have no explanation as to why functionality would be returning at this point, but we know it’s a result of prayer.

For those of you asking how to pray, John Paul continues to mention these two prayer points:

1. Pray that God would receive all the glory for everything John Paul is currently going through—and the healing we all believe is going to take place.
2. Pray that the tumor would continue to shrink and disappear.
