As a nation with less than 1% of the population claiming Christianity as their religion, the need for evangelistic ministry in Nepal is very great. Plus, with the recent earthquake devastating a large portion of the country, the need for humanitarian relief is also alarmingly high.
So when Daystar Television heard about the upcoming Converge Nepal trip organized by John Smithwick of Global Ventures Ministries, the network couldn’t help but want to get involved. And with a recent $10,000 donation going towards Converge Nepal, Daystar will be helping to make a difference for the Kingdom in that region of the world.
“We are so glad to be able to help John Smithwick’s ministry with a gift of $10,000 to aid him in spreading the message of Jesus among the largely unreached people of Nepal,” says Marcus Lamb, President and CEO of Daystar Television Network.
Converge Nepal is all about ministering to the people of Nepal in tangible ways. The trip, which is Global Venture’s greatest undertaking up to this point, will involve evangelistic outreaches and crusades, service projects and medical aid teams, as well as training and equipping for the local church body so that ministry can continue, even long after the Global Ventures team leaves the region.
Global Ventures has been planning this trip for 2.5 years, and were actually on the ground in Nepal preparing for the event when the massive earthquake hit in April 2015. In the midst of disaster, Global Ventures was given the opportunity to be a true first responder, providing water, food, supplies and materials for building shelters to thousands who were deeply affected by the tragedy. And through this opportunity, Global Ventures was able to establish trust and favor with both the church body and Nepalese government, setting the organization up for success with Converge Nepal.
Converge Nepal will include 8 mass crusades, along with 10 mass children’s evangelism events. Team members will also be involved with presenting the Gospel to over 200 local schools, saturating 8 major population hubs/regions with the Gospel message. Additionally, 300 buses will be made available to better transport unbelievers to the mass crusades and evangelism events.
Besides ministering and evangelizing to the people of Nepal, Global Ventures will also be distributing self-sustaining water filters to hundreds of families that do not have access to clean water, providing over 200,000 pieces of follow-up material to aid in spreading the Gospel even further after the trip has concluded, and donating portable sound systems, supplies for children’s ministry, along with in-depth evangelism training for the Nepali pastors and church leadership.
“It is incredibly touching to see Daystar partner with us at Global Ventures to help bring transformation and hope to the nation of Nepal,” says John Smithwick, Founder of Global Ventures. “A very special thank you to Marcus and Joni, as well as the whole Daystar team, for their generous $10,000 donation to our Converge Nepal initiative. Their giving is helping to make a world of difference in this devastated land!”
