As I write this post the Jewish people and Messianic community around the world are winding down their work week and entering into Shabbat. Shabbat is arguably the most important Jewish holiday.
Shabbat begins at sundown on Friday and ends on Saturday when three stars become visible in the sky. During Shabbat we remember how God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh. (Genesis 2:2) God modeled for man the rhythm of life he wants us to abide by. He wants us to break from the busyness of life and spend time focusing on Him, our spouse, our family, and REST.
Shabbat is marked by three key qualities: rest, holiness and joy. During Shabbat we gather with family and friends, eat a special meal, read God’s word, rest, play games, and focus on the relationships around us. Friends and family get together to light the Shabbat candles, say Kiddush over wine, and recite the Hamotzi over challah.
As believers, we are called to celebrate Shabbat and to make it a sacred day for our families. We guard and honor it as a day set apart for God.
I pray you and your family have a rejuvenating Shabbat this week!
Shabbat shalom,
