The Daystar Set Design Shoebox Contest
We may work hard here at Daystar, but we also have a lot of fun in the process! Recently some of our staff members participated in a creative competition to design the best potential set for an upcoming Heart for the World production.
The participants split into 4 teams, each tasked with the goal of creating two separate sets – one general Heart for the World set and one social media set. Both sets had to be displayed in separate shoe boxes using only materials that could be found within the building.
The teams had a few weeks to put their set designs together, and after much brainstorming and hard work, had to present their shoe box sets to a specially selected focus group who served as a panel of judges. Everyone did such a great job, but there could only be one winner!
The winning team – Team Awesome – consisted of Daystar employees Rose Howard, Justin Machacek, Joe Ninowski, Brooke Ninowski and Rebecca Megyesi!
All along the teams knew that the winning team would receive a special prize, but the details weren’t announced until the winning team was decided. And while they did receive a free tea lunch of their choice and drink at the Daystar bookstore, Team Awesome was also given a new challenge to complete.
Since shoeboxes were involved in the competition, we decided to have them put together two Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes, one for a little girl and one for a little boy. Operation Christmas Child is a part of Franklin Graham’s ministry Samaritan Purse, which works to provide gifts at Christmastime for children who otherwise would not receive one. We thought this would be a fun way to give a gift that keeps giving, and help us all to focus on giving instead of receiving during the Christmas season.
So, Team Awesome went to Walmart, which is conveniently located across the parking lot from our headquarters building, and started picking out gifts to fill their shoe boxes with.
After gathering all the gifts, they also wrote a letter and took a team picture to include in each shoebox. They had such a fun time working together to bless two special children this Christmas – and that is the best kind of prize!
Recently, some of our Daystar employees participated in a set design contest, in which they were required to build two sets using shoeboxes. It was such a fun challenge, we thought we would share some of the pictures with you! Plus, the winning team won an awesome prize – you’ll never guess what it was!
