The current situation in Iraq has escalated over the past several weeks as ISIS militants have continued to exterminate Christians living within the Iraqi boarders. The reports coming in are horrible. Christians forced to flee their homes to escape death because they refuse to convert to Islam, children being brutally murdered for no reason, women sold into sex slavery. And ISIS has not relented. These horrible crimes continue to happen daily.
When ISIS arrived in Mosul, a home to Christians for two millennia, they marked the doors of Christian homes with the letter “N” for Nasare – a Muslim term for Christians that is derived from Nazareth. At this point, Christians were told to convert to Islam or die. Those who were able to do so fled, and are now on the run from ISIS. It is estimated that over 400,000 Christians have been displaced from their homes in Iraq so far.
These displaced Christians are crying out for help from the United States, along with the rest of the world, and it is our responsibility as fellow believers to help them in any way that we can. So, what can you do?
First, pray. Pray that the violence will end and that peace will return to Iraq. Pray for the safety of all Christians living in Iraq, and for the United States to intervene, protecting those who cannot protect themselves.
Second, share. Please share this post throughout your social media platforms and encourage your friends and family to be in prayer for the Christians in Iraq as well. Help to raise awareness by sharing the image of the “N” on social media, letting people know that you stand with those who are being persecuted for their faith.
Thank you for joining Daystar in praying for the Christians being persecuted in Iraq. Our God is a big God, and with him all things are possible.
