The shooting, which took place on Wednesday, June 17, 2015, resulted in the deaths of 9 individuals, including Clementa Pinckney, Pastor of Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church and a South Carolina state senator.
Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church has long played a significant role in South Carolina’s history, including involvement in the slavery era and the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, and has also hosted important leaders such as Martin Luther King, Jr. Founded in 1816, the nearly 200 year old church is the oldest African Methodist Episcopal Church in the South.
The donation was made in response to a call to action given by Marcus Lamb, President and CEO of Daystar Television, during the network’s flagship program, Marcus & Joni, in which he requested viewers to give towards Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Daystar partners and viewers responded generously, and over $16,000 was donated to assist the church in the aftermath of the shooting.
“With our fall Heart for the World coming to a close, I am reminded that because of our faithful and giving partners, we were able to give a generous donation to Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Thank God that we were able to show our compassion and condolences in a tangible way. Together we are reaching out and showing the love of God,” states Marcus Lamb, Founder and President of Daystar Television Network. “I encourage you to continue to lift up this church family and the murderer in your prayers.”
Partners, thank you so much for your generous donations! Because of you, we are able to show Christ’s love to those in need all over the world. Please continue to pray for all those affected by this tragedy, especially the church congregation and the families of the victims!
