Daystar Television Network has donated $200,000 to People for Care and Learning and the “Build a City” campaign in Cambodia. The donation was made after Fred Garmon, Executive Director of People for Care and Learning, was a guest on Daystar’s flagship program, Marcus & Joni.
People for Care and Learning has been working throughout Southeast Asia for over a decade, improving communities and giving people hope for a better life. Build a City, an innovative new initiative from People for Care and Learning, has one primary focus – to build a city for the people of Khan Dang Kao, Cambodia. There are hundreds of families living in extreme poverty in that region of the world without access to things like clean water, nutritious food, sanitation and suitable shelter. Constructing a city for these families would help to meet these basic and essential needs, allowing the people an improved quality of life.
“I have just returned from 3 weeks in Cambodia were People for Care and Learning (PCL) was able to complete 3 epic events – the dedication of phase two of the Build a City project, the dedication of an incredibly effective church and community complex outside of Siem Reap in the rural country side, and the involvement of 11 Asia-pacific nations in the biannual HOSEA Conference,” says Dr. Fred Garmon, Executive Director of People for Care and Learning. “Each of these influential events have assisted PCL, as a faith-based non-government organization (NGO) in ‘earning the right’ to speak into the Cambodian culture. This could not have been accomplished without the partnership of our Daystar friends and partners. We are thankful that Daystar has allowed PCL to be the network’s arm of outreach into the Buddhist world of Southeast Asia.”
This initiative would not be possible without the help of people across the globe, which is where Daystar stepped in. The network aired a special program, in which viewers were encouraged to give toward Build a City, and the outcome was phenomenal – a total of $200,000 was donated to help make this project a reality.
“I am in awe of God’s provisions and what wonderful, generous partners Daystar has,” said Marcus Lamb, President and CEO of Daystar Television Network. “Back in Montgomery, AL, I could not have comprehended being able to give $200,000 to help Build a City in Cambodia. When we first started out in television, there were many times we did not have even $200.00. What a glorious God we serve; filling our cups to overflowing, making it possible to not only broadcast God’s love all over the world but also meet many physical needs. I am forever thankful to God and all our partners.”
