Dudu Fisher started his career as a professional cantor. He served as a cantor in the great synagogue of Tel Aviv and then in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Dudu is known throughout the world for his stirring performance as Jean Valjean in “Les Miserables”, though his musical career was launched many years before he became known for this role.
He was chosen by Cameron Mackintosh to play the role at the royal command performance for the queen of England.
In the late 1990’s, Fisher performed his first one man show in an off-Broadway theater in New York, Never On Friday. Lawrence Van Gelder of the New York Times called the show, “A display of a vocal talent that resists confinement”.
This show was soon followed by other one-man shows. Victor Gluck of Back Stage wrote of his one-man show, Something Old, Something New, “The energy that Fisher radiates on stage can light a small city”.
In 2009 Dudu Fisher shot a TV show special for PBS in Israel in the Roman theater of Beit She’an near the Sea of Galilee. The show “Dudu Fisher Live in Concert” was seen by millions of viewers in over one hundred stations throughout the USA.
The Success of that show led to an east coast tour in the fall of 2009 including shows in venues such as Carnegie Hall-NYC, Symphony space-Boston to name a few.
“Jerusalem” is a show created by Dudu Fisher and Barbara Chipurnoi, his personal manager. “Jerusalem” is a 90 minutes program with 18 songs in 5 languages showing footage of the holy city accompanied with stories about its fascinating history.
In 2010 Dudu opened ” The Singing Klezmer” in Israel with the Yiddish theater. This Klezmer show ran for 50 performances for over 50,000 people.
The CD “The Singing klezmer” was released in January 2010 and the DVD of the show is was released october 2010.
When the pope Benedict XV1 visited Israel in May 2009, Dudu was chosen to sing for him in a special event in president’s Shimon Peres’s residence house.
Dudu has released 36 CDs throughout his vast career. His recordings ranges from various styles from show tunes with the London symphony orchestra to cantorial compositions as well as Yiddish, Israeli and Chasidic albums.
