John Brown

In 1983, during a visit to Israel, John Brown, spiritually inspired by scripture (1 Kings 8:41-43), dedicated himself to finding oil and gas in Israel – starting the process that eventually led to the founding of Zion Oil & Gas. During the next 17 years he made numerous trips to Israel, hired oil and gas consultants in Israel and Texas, met with Israeli government officials and otherwise assisted Israeli exploration companies. This activity led Mr. Brown to form Zion Oil & Gas, Inc. in April 2000. Prior to founding Zion, Mr. Brown actively sought a license for oil and gas exploration in Israel for many years where his efforts led to the Israeli government’s grant in May 2000 of the Ma’anit License, the precursor to Zion’s Joseph License.

Mr. Brown is Zion’s founder and has been a director and Chairman of the Board of Directors since the Company’s founding in April 2000. From the Company’s inception, he also served as President until October 2001 and Chief Executive Officer until September 2004.

In October 2012, Zion’s Board of Directors unanimously appointed Mr. John Brown as Interim Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Brown continues to maintain his current responsibilities as Executive Board Chairman. Mr. Brown has extensive management, marketing, and sales experience, having served as Corporate Director of Purchasing at GTE Valeron, a subsidiary of GTE Corporation, from 1966-1986, and as Corporate Director of Procurement at Magnetek, Inc. from 1988-89.
