This week on Gospel Music Showcase, we have a Classic lineup that takes you back in time, and an acoustic group comprised of old friends…its Archie Watkins and Smokey Mountain Reunion, and The Primitive Quartet.

Archie Watkins & Smoky Mountain Reunion

During the 45-year span that Archie was with the Inspirations Quartet, he had the privilege of sharing the stage with some men whose names and voices you will no doubt recall.  So for several dates a year, since March 2010, some of these men have been joining Archie onstage for a night in concert as ‘Archie Watkins & Smoky Mountain Reunion‘.

Among those who have been performing with Archie are Marlin Shubert, Jack Laws, Troy Burns and Eddie Deitz.  There are many treasured songs, now considered classics, featuring these men that have been recorded over the years.  So, the group will be performing these classics in concert during these limited appearances together.  Due to the fact that Archie is the only one of these men who continues to travel and perform on a full time basis, these group appearances will be limited to a certain number per year, making each concert a must see!  Archie has already booked several of the dates for 2011, and a schedule is posted here below.

Lots of folks are excited to see these men in concert together again, and they are equally excited to appear together on stage once more.

Primitive Quartet

www.primitivequartet.com

The Primitive Quartet has been traveling and singing gospel music thirty-eight years, and they count it a joy and privilege to spread the gospel through song.  Their ultimate goal is to see saints blessed and encouraged to have a closer walk with God and to help lead souls to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

The Primitive Quartet was formed as a result of a fishing trip when they sat around the campfire at night and sang.  They realized that they had four-part harmony, and from there they started singing at their home church and other local churches. Today they travel approximately fifty thousand miles a year and do about one hundred fifty dates annually.  Their music is the traditional mountain shape note style singing accompanied by acoustical instruments including the mandolin, banjo, fiddle, guitars and acoustic bass.  They play their own music on all their recordings and strive to duplicate the same sound on all their personal appearances.
