Roma Downey was born and raised in Ireland; she trained for the stage at the Drama Studio of London before working with the prestigious Abbey Theatre Company in Dublin. Upon first moving to NYC Roma had many classical roles on and off Broadway, from Ibsen to Shaw, Check to Shakespeare. For her role as Pegeen in "The Playboy of the Western World" she was nominated for a Helen Hayes Best Actress award. Her television break came when she was cast to play Jackie Kennedy in the Emmy award winning mini series "A woman Named Jackie" From that followed many starring roles in TV movies...but it is perhaps for her portrayal of the soft hearted angel Monica on the long running CBS hit show "Touched By An Angel" that Roma is best known. This show ran for almost 10 years and for her work Roma was honored with several nominations for both Emmy awards and for Golden Globes. Roma has recorded a spoken word album "Healing Angel" and written a children’s book "Love is a Family."

She designs a line of inspirational jewelry for QVC and has a new Home Accessories collection with "Home Interiors." Roma has long been associated with Operation Smile. She sits on the Board and has been their national spokesperson for several years. Roma lives with her family in Malibu, Ca.
