Because of the cross my life has been changed. Because of his shed blood, my sins have been washed away. Because of His death, my debt has been paid, and because of His resurrection, I have hope beyond the grave.
Because of His compassion, I am comforted in the storm. Because of His mercy, I am no longer forlorn. Because of his broken body, I am free from discord.
Because of his atonement, I have life after death. Because He paid my penalty, I am free from sin. Because of His love, I am truly alive.
Because of Calvary, the enemy’s plan has been crushed. Because of His wounds, I have been healed, and because of the cross, humanity has hope.
Because of the cross, dearly beloved, let us then acknowledge what the great Apostle Paul, acknowledged so exultantly: This is a saying worthy of trust, worthy of complete acceptance: Christ Jesus came into this world to save sinners.
Because of the cross, God’s compassion for us is all the more wonderful because Christ died, not for the righteous or the holy, but for the sinner trapped in the barbed wire of guilt and pain.
Perhaps, no one said it better than Isaac Watts, English pastor, preacher, poet, and hymn writer when he wrote ~
Alas, and did my Savior bleed?
And did my Sovereign die?
Would He devote that sacred head
For such a worm as I?
At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light,
And the burden of my heart rolled away,
It was there by faith I received my sight,
And now I am happy all the day!
Was it for crimes that I had done,
He groaned upon the tree?
Amazing pity! Grace unknown!
And love beyond degree!
