Extras from the
Show!
Over 40: 12
Fantastic Facts
-
I can
recognize a
true friend
because she
is by my
side even
when
everyone
else has
left.
-
I have the
courage to
say not to
the vacuum
cleaner
salesman at
my door and
the
compassion
to say yes
to the Girl
scouts and
their Thin
Mints. (I
mean, with
“thin” in
the title,
they have to
be good for
you, right?)
-
I know that
God will
take care of
me no matter
what the
checkbook
balance
says, what
my teen
children
say, or what
my boss or
husband may
say.
-
I have
learned not
to sweat the
small stuff
in life –
and that
most of life
is small
stuff. (I am
old enough
to know that
this phrase
is overused
– but often
that’s
because we
need to
remember
it.
Besides,
after 40 we
have memory
lapses, and
that tired
old phrase
becomes
brand new
once again!)
-
I have seen
that if you
treat people
nice, they
will usually
treat you
nice back.
And even if
they don’t,
I have lived
long enough
to see that
God works
out their
“repayment
plan” in
better ways
than I can,
so I don’t
have to even
the score.
-
I am not a
reflection
of choices
made by my
husband,
children, or
grandchildren.
Even though
I lived with
the illusion
that I could
control
their
choices and
actions, I
now realize
I cannot.
I can only
control me.
-
I have come
to accept
that my son
can text
message from
class and
still get
good grades,
and that I
usually have
to ask him
to program
the
computer,
DVD Player,
clock radio,
and iPod. I
also realize
I really do
need to
learn these
skills
because
flying him
home from
college
every time I
need those
things done
is getting a
little
pricey!
-
I can break
a nail, run
out of gas,
lose my car
keys, have a
fender
bender, and
get a notice
from the
IRS, and
still not
have those
things ruin
my day.
-
I have seen
the day I
want sex
even more
than my
husband.
-
I have
accepted
that
Victoria
doesn’t have
the only
secret
because a
Wal-mart
$3.99 teddy
has the same
impact as
anything
from the
catalog with
anorexic
runway
models in
it.
-
I now like
to assume
that, for
the most
part, people
mean well
even when
they don’t
always
decide well.
-
Grace and
mercy are
things I
used to
extend to
others, but
I have come
to realize
that no one
needs them
more than I
do.
